Yorke Peninsula
From our base at the Port
Vincent caravan park we started to explore the peninsula today.
First stop after driving
though fairly flat farming land with the sea on our left was
Stansbury.
Red cliffs at the Stansbury Marina |
Lookout and gardens overlooking the gulf. |
where we stopped to admire
the view from the lookout and the wonderful cliff edge homes. The red
cliffs at the mariner were amazing, the long pier over the gulf of St
Vincent was worth seeing too.
Another long jetty |
The sleepy village of
Coobowie was the proud owner of the amazing murals on the side of the
local bakery and store.
Next stop was Edithburgh
where we loved the historic stone homes and drove out to the wind
farm which was huge and in a typical very windy spot.
Final stop on the way home
today was Minlaton, another historic town, the home of the Harry
Butler Memorial with his plane the Red Devil. It's a beautiful old
town with buildings that reflect a bygone era.
Catholic Church |
Unloved and deserted pub, right in the middle of town. |
