Winter Journey

Cowell
Arno Bay
Tumby Bay

An interesting day was in front of us as we left Whyalla, we just didn't know it as we pulled out at 9.30am.
We headed south towards our next camping spot, which was going to be Tumby Bay about 200 kilometres away.

Flat but very beautiful country

Distant ranges

We stopped at Cowell for morning tea and were glad to stretch our legs, walk around the town and found a nice place on the foreshore to stop.
Next stop was Arno Bay where we had lunch and a run along a lovely beach beside the jetty.

Cowell township

Unfortunately we took the first road into Tumby Bay and found that it was completely closed for road work. It had been raining and poor Trev had to do a turn through thick red mud. Of course he accomplished that without problem and we continued on.
We arrived at the caravan park, booked in and paid, only to find out there was no WiFi. Oh well we'll manage for a few days. Unhooking was fun, we have been given a large site on gravel near the amenity block...sounds good...sort of
First thing that happened was the jockey wheel immediately bogged in the deep gravel, then to make matters worse the caravan jack didn't work. We needed to raise the van and couldn't do it with the wheel as it wouldn't move. Fortunately the car jack did work and we were able to stabilise the wheel and secure the van.
THEN as Trev was coming into the van for a much needed red, the door handle broke off!!!!!!! And, of course we can't do anything to fix it and the door can't be opened from the outside. Not sure what we'll do about it tomorrow, let's sleep on it.

Update...we can now access the van from the outside using pliers, that's a comfort!
