Winter Journey

Tanunda
Seppelsfield
Marananga

Friday.
Chateau Tanunda
The sun shone us again today and although it was a very chilly start we rugged up and soldiered on. We walked the main street of Nurioopta, looked into a few shops and chatted with anyone who would :)

Tanunda was our next stop, we found a very touristy town with lots of fast food and craft places. The tourist info office was great though, Trev found a great history of the Barossa book which he can pass to our children.

We had our picnic in a sunny spot in the town square and happily watched the passing parade, talked to some fellow travellers and dogs.

A lavender border to envy

The historic and one of the oldest wineries in the area, Chateau Tanunda was beautiful, I loved the outdoor areas and lavender garden. The people in the new Cellar Door area were very welcoming and friendly, we didn't stay long but warmed ourselves by the fire, chatted and tasted some wine. We followed the wine trail and ended up at the magnificent and historic Seppelts Winery and spent time wandering around, we found the galleries interesting, loved the gardens and were welcomed at the cellar door.

At Marananga we passed a beautiful Lutheran Church, stopped and spent some time wandering in the grounds and graveyard. A very peaceful resting place for many.

Saturday.
A relaxing housekeeping morning, washing done. BBQ lunch at the caravan and a long walk around the park, afterwards we sat, reading, sitting in the sun.

Parsons Lookout

Our afternoon was spent exploring and happily finding some more ancestors. This time the search led us to Rowland Flat Cemetery where we found direct ancestors of Trevor's Mother, so, once again, the day was a rewarding one.

On our travels we also found a Nitchke Road which was a thrill too.
Back at the caravan park we found the place jumping with people on long weekend getaways. Kids and dogs everywhere, a huge fire going in the pit near the camp kitchen and a wood fired pizza van in full swing.
