Guerilla Bay, Burrewarra Point, Nelligen, South Durass NSW

Today we went to Guerilla Bay and then hiked to the lighthouse at Burrewarra Point, it was a fairly easy walk of about an hour. We were not wowed by the lighthouse but loved the walk through an old gnarly banksia forest. We were then wowed by the views back across Broulee Bay and the Pacific Ocean. We have been told this is a great place to see the migrating whales at the right time of year. We did see more fuzzy shapes in the water and think they were seals.

We took the scenic drive up through Batemans Bay, crossed the bay and found the Holmes Lookout Road and saw beautiful views back over Batemans and over the Clyde River National Park.

We took our time seeing this tiny but historic village and enjoying the sunshine and then back to the coast to see the amazing lunar like landscape of rocky ledges of South Durass.

On the way back we were quietly walking on the beach when about 30 people arrived, we were then privileged to witness the Baptism of 2 young women in the cold waters of Batemans Bay... it's been quite a day!

Tomorrow we head south with home as our goal by the end of the week.

Moruya, South Head Beach, South Head Point, Shelly Beach NSW

NOTE The camera was on the wrong setting for ALL the photos I took today 😒

After a visit to the market this morning and quick bite to eat we headed to South Head Beach where deafeningly awesome surf was pounding the shore. We stood on the beach transfixed by the sheer beauty and power of the waves and listened to the thundering noise which we both thought sounded like a jet plane. No local surfer was crazy enough to venture in today I'm pleased to say.

Crash!

They just kept rolling in

From there a quick drive took us to the point and the site of an old (1880's) cemetery which looked out over the cruel sea. There are 20 graves there, most of the stones are illegible now.

There is great viewing platform there for seeing whales dolphins and seals. Today we were lucky enough to see a family of seals just hanging out in the inhospitable sea. A local lady told me they are usually in the same spot everyday, she also said we should come back in October to see the whales...We just might do that!

I know, bad photo but I promise you, they are seals

Next stop was Shelly Beach and I was eager to repeat yesterdays shell collecting experience but we discovered the beach was named after some Aboriginal Middins found at the site. Unfortunately we saw no evidence of them.

What we did see from Shelly Beach was a group of sky divers just as they left the plane, about 6 of them successfully landed in the same spot on the distant shore however one ill-fated jumper ended up in the sea. We watched as the plane circled back and forth marking the spot for a rescue. Luckily a jet ski arrived quickly so we can only hope that the outcome was a happy one.

We passed a small historic quarry where 80 stone masons from England cut stones for the pylons of the Sydney Harbour Bridge from the local rock. I was amused by this as I remembered learning that
stone was especially bought from Sydney to build Boyd's Tower not far away in Eden!

Broulee & Moruya NSW

Broulee

Another beautiful day on the coast, we decided to go to Moruya for lunch and ended up browsing the local beaches and shops. Moruya is a nice little town that has everything you could need although I'm sure the locals get sick of the constant traffic passing through the middle of it. We'll return on the weekend to go to the market.

Treasures at Vinnies

Broulee is a surprisingly populated holiday area with stunning beaches and I'm not sure it would be as appealing in the summer when the masses arrive from the city. We saw the best vegetable garden ever using the whole front garden of a very modern home, unfortunately the only things on sale were chokos so guess what....pumpkin and choko mash for dinner, delicious!

Anticipation....

Lonely bay at Broulee

We watched surfers just sitting around waiting for waves and frankly wonder what the attraction to that sport is, especially when the bay was so smooth and calm.

A highlight of the day was shell collecting at Broulee and we found lots of gorgeous colouful specimens of the tiny banded kelp shell.

Tomakin NSW

We had a good drive from Eden, through Merimbula and further north. We stopped in the historic village of Cobargo and had a wander around the shops.
Turninng right from the highway at Mogo we found Tomakin and a quiet park beside the Tomaga River and beside the Tomakin Club, we are looking forward to having a look around

We were greeted with another sunny day and decided to explore the coast between Tomakin and Bateman's Bay.
The local area is so lovely we walked along the river then the beach finding a stunning rocky shoreline. It was beautiful, the bay was calm and the sky was clear. This area is a haven for fishermen and Trev may throw a line in tomorrow.

We drove slowly north turning into each side road that went to the coast finding each beach a little different. We were amazed at the homes clinging to the cliffs around here and can only imagine the cost of a sea view, there are also many tiny cottages hidden among the trees.

We soon reached the outlying suburbs of Batemans Bay and joined the city traffic to the shopping centre. After buying what we needed we found a delicious lunch and then retraced our steps back to the caravan.

Merimbula and Pambula NSW

A quick trip up the A1 took us to beautiful Merimbula where we lunched at a beach-side cafe. We then took a leisurely walk to the beach across the parkland and drove back down to Pambula Beach before exploring the township.

On the way back to the caravan we stopped in to Quarantine Bay to admire the boats and the view.

Another beautiful day in southern New South Wales.
