Highlights of Bendigo Victoria

We have been blessed with perfect autumn weather with the sun shining everyday.

Victoria Hill Mine:

One of the largest in Australian history now preserved as a park with well defined paths and easy steps.

We wandered around trying to imagine the hard life miners would have endured on the mighty quest for GOLD

Our aim of course was to find a really large nugget just lying around waiting to be picked up...
unfortunately did not happen :)

 

 

 

We stopped for lunch at the park near the entrance to the mining area and one of the tables was covered in fresh fruit and vegetables...Free for anyone to take.

 

A lady dropping off a box of pink lady apples explained that whenever people had more produce than they could use themselves bringing it to the park was a way of sharing therefore helping others and avoiding waste.

 

Love this idea and each time we passed this park lots of people were gathered

Bendigo Pottery:

 

Established in 1858 and still looks like it's going strong. Very interesting displays in the Pottery museum and shop.

 

I would imagine the pottery style has not changed all that much over the years however some of the pieces do have a distinct modern flavour.

 

 

Antique Market:

A treasure hunters paradise and although tempted came away empty handed.

The Journey Continues

Bendigo

Although we are here in Bendigo for our daughters sporting event we have had plenty of time to look around and have enjoyed our time at the Bendigo Marong Big 4 Holiday Park.

This also gives us another occasion to "practise" our caravanning skills.

As we are relatively new to this life felt it prudent to stay somewhere secure on this occasion particularly as we wanted to leave the caravan for extended periods of time.

After a couple of  hiccoughs when we arrived we have settled well and everything is working for us. My bed is not that comfortable though so will probably upgrade with a new mattress before we have any extended trips.
We came away without a heater so a quick trip to KMart (my favourite shop) fixed that. We also discovered we only had 1 (yes ONE) teaspoon so that will have to be addressed too. We also need a clock and a mirror that I can see into while I am standing up! Minor things I know and eventually we will have everything I think we need.

Our 1st time at a Big 4 caravan park. Glad to report it has
spotless bathrooms, laundry and camp kitchen.
 Only set back is the major highway
with lots of traffic and trucks running past the door
